Fight for pink

15 May

This year’s Tour of Italy has begun. The famous cycling tour is called “Giro d’Italia”. It is one of the most important stage races and, to me, the most fascinating in the world! It usually takes place in May. This year as many as 23 teams are partecipating with nine riders for each of them.

Usually, the victory of this important event goes to the one who wins the hardest uphill, in fact, it’s always the Dolomites which decide the winner 😉  The prize for each race is a pink shirt.

I hope Nibali will win because he’s my favorite runner, although Wiggins will be hard to beat. I am happy because my parents will allow me to go and see them on the three peaks in Lavaredo.

Do you like watching stage races? Do you have a cycling tour in your country?

We are at least two cyclist enthousiasts in this project, Matteo. I follow your Giro on the news waiting to see which professional cyclist will make it every year.
I watch the “Tour de France” in July, every year ( even when I am away in a foreign country;) Cyclists compete for the yellow jersey here. Most of the cyclists riding in the Giro will be on the Tour. They win or lose the race in the Alps.
Here we call these cyclists ” The road slaves”. That sport is soooooooo demanding.
By the way, one of my all- time favorites was Marco Pantani, the Pirate 😉

Lucky you to be able to attend a race in the Dolomites.

Yes, Vincent, I think it is similar, maybe there are steeper up and downhills in the Italian tour as some races are in the mountains 😉

    A pink t-shirt … 🙂
I like bicycle races. There used to be a bike race in Hildburghausen, called “Werra classics”. I took part almost every year and even became first among the girls.

My favourite cyclist was Jan Ullrich 😉 No, no relative. Unfortunately his constant competition with Lance Armstrong, which mostly saw him come in second, made him use illegal substances… Well, the desire to win doesn’t justify those means, not even if your competitor does the same.
